Happy Friday, friends! I have decided to combine my monthly book review with my Friday Favorites this week. This is always a super busy time at work, so I actually only read two books this month. I am so close to finishing a third, but I'll save it for May! I have so much random goodness to share!
I am linking up with Andrea and Erika today to share my April books and a few Friday Favorites!

From time to time, I love to read a good mystery/psychological thriller. If this is your jam, I have several excellent ones to recommend. However, not this one. The characters are flat and honestly, creepy, and I was incredibly bored with the story. I was relieved when it ended.
But then I read...

Let me preface this commentary with the fact that this is not a typical book or genre for me to read. And I don't really care to start. That said, this book was soooo good. I know that an author has written a really good book when it stretches my imagination (sometimes past my comfort zone), the characters stay with me, and I cannot wait to discuss it with other people who have read it. This book did all three and more. It is equal parts historical fiction, fantasy, psychological horror, and love story. That sounds like a mess but it really is one of those books that lingers in my mind. I do think it would make an incredible movie...but I'll be scared the entire time.
This book is not light reading. The author took 10 years to write it. 10 years. Wow. I'm not right after spending three days reading it. For the record, I would be super sad if I took 10 years to write a book and someone read it in three days. Just sayin'. :)
And now, a few favorites...
I love kicking off the spring/summer seasons with new shoes. Target is killing it with their sandal selection this year. They are also currently running a deal on women's clothing and shoes; spend $50, get a $10 gift card. The only thing better than new shoes are new shoes bought on sale!
Another Friday Favorite is this tent.
How random is that? Mason got this for Christmas. It is super easy to set up and sleeps two people. We currently have it set up in our bedroom and he has been "camping" every night this week. :)
Finally...
Do you still need a mother's day gift for a mom in your life? This tea kettle is the perfect gift. I cannot explain how much I love this. And based on the reviews, I'm not the only one. It quickly heats water to the perfect temperature for all types of tea, or anything you need hot water for. Add her favorite tea, some honey, a cute spoon, some chocolate and call it done. I've had mine since Christmas and I think some special people in my life are going to be enjoying theirs soon too!
Well, that should be enough randomness to get you through to the weekend! I hope the sun is shining in your part of the world!
xo,
Deanna
